Network Overview
Multiple Tier 1 Networks
Connectivity
Your website is hosted on servers connected to the Internet through multiple redundant connections provided by some of the largest backbone providers in the world - MCI, SBC, Level 3, and Global Crossing - ensuring data delivery to the end user in the fastest, most efficient manner possible. OLM guarantees a 99.9% uptime by utilizing redundant connections and Network Operation Centers (NOCs) in both Connecticut and Chicago.
Bandwidth
OLM has multiple connections to the backbone of the Internet, and enough bandwidth to accommodate even the largest surges in web traffic. Because we maintain a lower-than average capacity, and OLM's bandwidth utilization is continuously monitored, we are able to keep our customers' websites running efficiently even during the Internet's busiest periods. Each datacenter utilizes multiple 155 Mbit OC3 and 45 Mbit DS3 bandwidth connections.
Monitoring
Both data centers are monitored 24/7 by highly qualified network
administrators. On shared web hosting servers, we utilize ping and HTTP port
monitoring devices, and ping tests are conducted every 5 minutes to verify
that the servers are active. In the event that a port is unreachable, an
email is sent to every member of our technical staff. Additionally, our
engineers are provided with real-time status, notification and forecasting
of network events. On dedicated servers and virtual private servers, we
conduct ping tests every 5 minutes to verify your server is active.
Network Providers
Level 3 (Genuity)
Level 3, which operates one of the largest Internet backbones in the world, became even larger with their recent acquisition of Genuity.
Global Crossing
Global Crossing's fiber optic network consists of over 100,000 route miles which join more than 200 cities around the globe.
MCI (UUNET)
By acquiring the assets of UUNET, MCI has become one of the industry's farthest-reaching global Internet backbone, spanning six continents, over 140 countries, over 2,800 cities and over 4,500 Points of Presence (PoPs).
Data Centers
OLM provides the infrastructure necessary to meet all your hosting needs. We maintain a 20,000 square foot data center located in Lisle, IL and another at our 22,000 square foot worldwide headquarters in Trumbull, CT.
Network Security
OLM incorporates the latest technologies in IDS (Intrusion Detection System) to monitor and protect our networks against malicious attacks. In addition, our shared hosting servers are protected behind internal firewalls and monitoring software.
Data Center Security
OLM takes security very seriously. All major entry points to the building and computer area require an electronic ID card and security code. The buildings are monitored by cameras and supervised 24 hours per day.
